Add a Canopy Over Your Deck

Decks are a great way to enjoy the great outdoors and they have become synonymous with outdoor living these days.  But, one thing that goes along with outdoor living is the danger that comes with constant exposure to the sun.  As we all become more conscious of our need to remain protected from the sun, we need to find ways to still enjoy the outdoors while being smart.  One great way to get the most from your deck, while protecting yourself from the sun, is to install a deck canopy, and this great outdoor accessory offers other benefits as well.

A canopy is basically the same thing as an awning.  It is simply a covering overhead that can shield the area on your deck from the constant beating rays from the sun.  A canopy can be a permanent structure or it can be something that is retractable so it is only opened when you need it and can be rolled back when you don’t.

Canopies can also be standalone structures, meaning that they have four support poles on each corner to support the covering overhead (or they can even have more than four support poles if it is a large structure) or they can be attached to the side of your home, in which case the overhead covering is supported on one side by the house itself.  The other side may have support poles on the outside edge if it is a permanent or stationary structure or the support structure may be able to support the entire overhead covering without any support poles, which is how the retractable models are built.

So why should consider adding a canopy over your deck?  The obvious reason is that it provides shade from the sun so you don’t have to worry as much about the damaging rays of the sun on your skin.  It also keeps you cooler and allows you to enjoy your deck even if it is raining outside.
