How to Choose the Perfect Decor for your Patio Door
A patio can be the focal point of relaxed barbecues for the whole summer and the door gets used more than the revolving one at the main clothing store downtown, so it is important to get the right patio door window treatment for it.
Most patio doors are either the French doors or sliding doors, giving you a lot of different options when it comes to dressing them up. The window treatment for a patio door needs to reflect both the personality of the inside of your home and the outdoor patio as well.
Vertical blinds work really well on sliding doors and will go with almost any décor. They are durable, easy to clean, have good insulating properties and you have complete control over how much sunlight you allow in the room.
There is also a fairly new product out called panel track blinds that fit into the tracks of the door and slide open and closed. For both a unique and beautiful way to dress up your sliding doors, you may want to consider Plantation shutters.
French doors appear to be more complicated because as you open and close the door; anything hanging loose is likely to get caught in the door. Plantation shutters and sunburst shutters are both designed to work well on French doors, as are pleated Roman shades. You can also use blinds on them, just be sure the company you are getting them from knows they are for French doors and you need to fasten down the draw string. Be forewarned that most blinds and some shades will clatter a little every time they are opened and closed. A curtain that just covers the window part, and is fastened both at the top and bottom, is another beautiful way you can go.
If you really do not need the window covered for privacy or shade, a valance or window treatment around the door is a possibility. This allows you to keep your guests in full view under the patio covers while finishing up the last minute preparations in the kitchen.
