How to Keep your Hammered Copper Fire Pit in Good Condition
Many people including myself love relaxing around our hammered copper fire pits. Because of this it is important that we take very good care of our hammered copper fire pits so that we can use them for a long time to come.
One of the worst things you can do is to pour cold water onto the flames in your hammered copper fire pit. The rapid change in temperature from cold to hot can have adverse effects on the unit; the unit could chip or crack. If it is necessary to quickly put out the fire in your hammered copper fire pit then it is much safer to smother the fire with sand.
Do not allow burned wood to sit in your hammered copper fire pit after the fire has been extinguished and the unit has cooled. This wood may absorb water and hold it against the copper that makes up your fire pit; this dampness may lead to corrosion. If you are interested in a heating unit that does not require as much work then may be more interested in a gas patio heater.

You should clean the unit and safely store it if you do not plan on using it for a period of time. But before storing the hammered copper fire pit you should ensure that it is not wet; this is very important if you want to minimize corrosion.
It is a bad idea to use gasoline to kick-start fires in your hammered copper fire pit unit. Gasoline will eat away at the metal causing flaking; it will also make the copper much less attractive.
