Installing a Pavers Walkway

One great use for concrete pavers is installing a walkway on the front, back, or side of your home. There are many places you can use the walkway in connection with patios, driveways, pool decks, and garden installations.

When designing your projects, try to do as many as possible within a set period of time, as this will lower the expense than if you had to do each project individually, mostly because you can buy concrete pavers in bulk and save on labor costs. Here are some installing pavers walkway tips for those interested in adding this wonderful feature to their home:

1) Make sure to carefully plan out the dimensions of your walkway, especially if you’ll be combining it with a driveway, stoop, or steps, as you’ll want to make sure it lines up properly in length, width, and especially height.

2) Make sure you figure out the grading, or the slope of the walkway, properly. If you don’t, the first good rainstorm will cause water to pool up on the surface of the walkway. Worse, the water could flow to an area that you don’t want it to, causing a damaging flood.

3) One of the challenging aspects of installing a walkway is the amount of saw cutting you’ll need to do to properly fit the pavers into the design. It is this step that may prevent homeowners from installing these projects themselves. For instance, if your walkway has curves, you’ll have to do heavy cutting. But even if you have a straight walkway, you may have to do cuts to have the paver pattern fit properly. Get a diamond wet saw to get the job done, as a dry saw will get too hot and throw too much dust around the area. Always wear proper safety equipment, including gloves and goggles, when making any kind of saw cuts of concrete pavers.
