Patio Covers Bring Life to Your Outdoor Living
There has been a shift in recent years in the way many homeowners use their patios and live their lives for that matter. Maybe you are one of these types of people. The term “outdoor living” is what is being used to describe any number of activities from entertaining to good old fashioned lounging that is happening in backyards across the nation. What was once a place for casual relaxing and neighborly good times, the porch has all but been replaced by the patio as the location of choice to kick back and relax.
You could probably come up with any number of reasons why this has happened, but the result is the same. What has happened is that manufacturers have been able to offer more in the way of products and patio accessories because of the way patio covers provide protection and structure to the outdoor space. If you own an older home, the patio that was likely laid for you consisted of nothing more than a poured slab of concrete and the patio cover was the extended roofline of the house.
Nothing is wrong with this type of set up, but if you’ve seen what a modern patio can look like, you might be hard pressed to compare the two. There are many styles of patio structures that you can use in your yard, it simply depends upon your tastes, landscape features and home décor in general. The pergola is a very common outdoor patio structure, sometimes called a trellis or arbor. If you want to learn how to build a pergola, there are free and paid plans available online. The hardest part can be getting your posts set. Once you have these set, plumb and square, the rest of the project is more a matter of heavy lifting and placement than anything else. This all depends upon how intricate and complex your designs are of course.
Outdoor living is one of the ways that we have adapted to life in a more fast-paced and often stressful world. When we can get outdoors and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, it changes our physiologic responses. So, while we could say that it is due to technological improvements and enhancements in materials as to why we are choosing to spend more time outdoors, but it is really more of a matter of us getting back to our roots.
