Securing the Home with the Best Patio Door Lock

Having a patio cover in the home is great, but it is a security nightmare for it has been proven that the patio door is one of the most preferred entry points of intruders. There are many reasons for this and one of them is that the door usually is in the back of the house and there are less chances of being seen. So keep safe and choose locks that are the strongest and gives the most safety for your family. Here are some choices and some tips for finding the best patio door lock.

First there is the locking bar. This fits between the frame and the door that opens. If used properly, this will prevent unwanted intrusion into the home. Since many doors can be lifted up from their track, you have to make sure that you choose the kind that will prevent this from happening as well. A good bar can withstand up to several hundred pounds of pressure.

Another option in securing your patio sliding doors is the use of locking clamps. These are installed both on top and bottom of the door. They secure the doors firmly. There are many versions of this and some can come with keys. If you choose the one with keys, make sure that the keys are hung out of view from outside, but close to the doors. This will be essential in cases of emergency as the patio door is one exit that is good to use.

There also are sliding patio door locks. This can be operated by foot which makes it convenient and worry free as far as keys are concerned. This can be viewed from outside making it a deterrent to would-be intruders who generally will not attempt to gain entry if they think the job would be too difficult.

There are several other different kinds of products that you can install. Above are some of the best choices. All the choices are relatively inexpensive and cost should not play a part in securing the home. Most are easy to install. What you use depends on the type of patio door you have, and your choice should make the most sense in your particular situation. You may want to consider child proofing, for example. Although the practicality of your choice is to be taken into account; the security of your family is first and foremost. Some more great advice on these and other locks can also be found on the internet.
