The roof is attached to the steel frame and the cover is either mounted on the top of the patio slab on brackets or supported on steel posts set in concrete.

Patio covers usually have semi-flat roofs with a slight slope and the roof can be reinforced to bear heavy loads in case of snowfall. With a steel cover you can even install a ceiling fan in the patio to cool you off in the hot summer. Some steel covers have a protective coating of vinyl that to avoid rusting, reduce maintenance and increase durability.
